Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef (or venison burger)
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Crust and Filling

  • 1/3 cup coconut flour
  • 3 Tablespoons almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1½ cups cheese, shredded

Optional Toppings

  • 1 tomato, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef and onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion together until the meat is fully browned and onions are softened, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  2. Prepare the pie base: Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture evenly into a pie plate. Sprinkle the half teaspoon of salt over the beef mixture for seasoning.
  3. Mix the batter: In a separate bowl, combine the coconut flour, almond flour, baking powder, unsweetened almond milk, and eggs. Whisk thoroughly until smooth and well blended to form the batter.
  4. Assemble the pie: Pour the batter evenly over the beef mixture in the pie plate. Then sprinkle about 1 cup of shredded cheese evenly on top.
  5. Bake the pie: Place the pie plate in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) and bake for about 25 minutes until the top is set and lightly golden.
  6. Add optional toppings: Remove the pie from the oven and if desired, top with sliced tomato and sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheese on top for extra cheesiness.
  7. Finish baking: Return the pie to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes to melt the cheese and soften the tomato for a perfect finish.

Notes

  • Feel free to use venison burger instead of ground beef for a richer flavor.
  • Optional toppings such as sliced green onions, pickles, or jalapeños can be added to customize the pie.
  • This recipe is gluten-free and low-carb thanks to the use of coconut and almond flours.
  • Serving with a side salad or steamed vegetables complements the richness of the pie well.
