This Grilled Salmon with Lemon Dill Butter is a vibrant and flavorful dish perfect for a quick and healthy meal. Tender salmon fillets are seasoned with lemon pepper and grilled to perfection, then topped with a creamy and aromatic lemon dill butter that melts beautifully over the warm fish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Lemon Dill Butter:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 small lemon, zested
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, more or less to taste

For the Salmon:

  • Avocado oil or light olive oil, for salmon and grill grates
  • 2 pounds salmon filet, cut into 4 pieces
  • Lemon pepper seasoning

Instructions

  1. Make the Lemon Dill Butter: In a bowl, combine the softened butter with chopped dill, lemon zest, and freshly ground black pepper. Use a fork to mash and stir everything together until thoroughly blended. Set the butter mixture aside.
  2. Prepare the Salmon: Remove the salmon from the refrigerator and bring it to room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes. Divide the salmon into four portions and lightly brush or spray both sides with avocado or light olive oil. Sprinkle the skin side generously with lemon pepper seasoning.
  3. Prepare the Grill: Clean your grill grates thoroughly and then rub them with a paper towel soaked in oil to prevent sticking. Preheat your grill to 450°F (232°C).
  4. Grill the Salmon: Open the grill lid and place the salmon skin-side down onto the hot grill grates. Let it cook undisturbed for 5 to 6 minutes.
  5. Flip and Finish Cooking: Carefully flip the salmon and grill for another 5 to 6 minutes or until the fish is fully cooked through—it should be opaque and flake easily with a fork.
  6. Serve: Remove the salmon from the grill and immediately top each piece with a generous dollop of the lemon dill butter. Serve warm and enjoy the fresh, bright flavors.

Notes

  • Bringing the salmon to room temperature before grilling helps it cook evenly.
  • Using oil on the grill grates and on the fish prevents sticking and helps achieve nice grill marks.
  • You can substitute fresh dill with dried dill if necessary, but fresh dill provides the best flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of lemon dill butter to your taste—feel free to add extra for serving.
  • For a smoky flavor, consider adding wood chips to your grill.
