Meat Mixture
- 1 lb Ground Beef
- 1/2 Onion, chopped
- 4 Tbsp Taco Seasoning (or 1 Taco Seasoning Packet)
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1 can (10 oz) Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilies
Other Ingredients
- 2 cups Cheddar Cheese, shredded
- 24 Wonton Wrappers
- Cooking Spray
- Preheat and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly mist 12 cups of a muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Cook the Ground Beef Mixture: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. Add the chopped onion and taco seasoning, cooking until the onions are soft and fragrant. Stir in the diced tomatoes with green chilies and water, and simmer briefly to combine flavors.
- Assemble the Wonton Taco Cups – First Layer: Press one wonton wrapper into the bottom of each prepared muffin cup, ensuring it forms a cup shape. Spoon about half of the meat mixture into each wonton cup, distributing evenly. Then sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Assemble the Second Layer and Bake: Place a second wonton wrapper on top of the cheese layer in each cup to form a layered taco cup. Repeat the layering with the remaining meat mixture and cheese on top if desired. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes, until the wonton wrappers turn golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the taco cups from the oven and allow them to cool for about 5 minutes. Run a knife around the edges of each cup to loosen, then gently slide them out of the muffin tin. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
- You can use a store-bought taco seasoning packet or make your own blend with chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and oregano for a homemade touch.
- Feel free to add other toppings inside the cups like black beans, corn, or jalapeños for extra flavor and texture.
- Make sure not to overfill the wonton cups, as they need space to crisp up during baking.
- If you want to make this recipe vegetarian, substitute ground beef with seasoned cooked lentils or plant-based crumbles.
- For extra crispiness, brush the wonton wrappers lightly with butter or oil before baking.
